Mervin Carl Van Dyke was born September 26, 1884 in South
Dakota. He was the second of four sons born to Rudolph Fremont Van Dyke
and Ida Barker. He married Charlotte Virden, born July 27, 1885 in
Hygiene, Colorado. She was the youngest child of John Wesley
Virden and Nancy Jane Morrow.
